INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep- On several occasions, President Joko Widodo asked the government to focus on completing connectivity with the acceleration of infrastructure development, from roads, bridges, ports, to airports.

The President again reminded of the importance of inter-island connectivity as well as within the island.

"Transport connectivity should always be developed," said President in the waiting room of Trunojoyo Airport, Sumenep regency.

According to the Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media Secretariat of President Bey Machmudin in a press release received Sunday (8/10/2017) said the President praised the Ministry of Transportation which has extended the airport runway Trunojoyo from 1,100 meters to 1,600 meters so that ATR commercial aircraft already landed since last week.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that it needs an extension of the runway from the current 1,600 meters and 30 meters wide to 2,250 meters and 45 meters wide to be used by jet aircraft.

"So that not only proppeller aircraft (propellers) that can land, but also the jet," said Budi.

To accommodate prospective passengers and passengers who come required the extensive development of the terminal.

"But the extension of this terminal can not be completed at once, but through phasing, the first stage is 800 square meters, the second stage is 1,160 square meters and the third stage is 2,139 square meters," Budi said.

The runway extension and terminal expansion will be completed by 2019.

"Everything will be completed in 2019," said Budi.
