INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The government through the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation sets a Public Service Obligation / PSO contract with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) worth Rp2.39 trillion in 2018.

The figure is increasing compared to 2017 which is still running, worth Rp2, 09 trillion. The government hopes, this additional PSO could prevent tariff increases for long-distance Railway passengers (KA).

"There is a significant increase for long distance PSOs, it is actually expected that there will be no tariff increase (KA Distance) in 2018," said Director General of Railways, Ministry of Transportation, Zulfikri in Jakarta, Thursday (28/12/2017).

Zulfikri said, according to the composition of the subsidy given by the Ministry of Transportation, for K3 K3 get PSO allocation of Rp1, 09 trillion or 46% of the total PSO provided.

As for KRL operated by PT KCI get PSO allocation of Rp 1.29 trillion or a total of 56% of the total PSO provided.

From the subsidy amount in 2018, the largest subsidy allocation is still provided for passengers using Commuter Line KRL.

This is in line with the government's program to move people's mobility from the use of road-based transportation to rail-based mode of transportation.

The government estimates that by 2018, KRL passengers will reach 877 thousand passengers / day. When compared to the average of KRL passengers in 2017 of 800 thousand, there is an increase of 9.6%.
