INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Boom! The Indonesian electric vehicle market ishot. Battery electric car sales in the first quarter of 2026 exploded 95.9% to 33,150 units compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, electric motors have reached 236,451 units, or 65% of the total national electric vehicles as of February 2026.
Seeing this opportunity, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) immediately stepped on the gas. Through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries IKMA, the Ministry of Industry opens a wide avenue for IKM local automotive components to enter the KBLBB Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle supply chain.
IKM Not a Spectator Anymore
The strategy of the Ministry of Industry is simple but promising. The Ministry of Industry brings IKM directly together with thebosses of the APM Brand Holder Agents of electric vehicles.
On May 7, 2026 in Bekasi, 60 IKM conveyance components sat at one table with PT Hartono Istana Teknologi Polytron. The results were immediate. Polytron explored cooperation with PIELLOT Tegal, PIKKO, and APEK Karawang to supply motorcycle seats, plastic housings, molds and stamping dies, to other supporting components.
Furthermore, on May 22, 2026 in Bekasi Regency, it was turn 70 IKM to meet PT SGMW Motor Indonesia and PT VKTR Mobility Technology. The focus this time is components for electric cars, buses, and trucks.
In fact, PT Pindad Persero as the main implementer of the National Car National Strategic Project also opened a follow-up discussion with IKM components. The national supply chain door is officially open.
"The development of the electric vehicle ecosystem must provide broad benefits for the domestic industry. Therefore, we continue to strengthen the partnership between IKM automotive components and APM so that more local products and components are absorbed," stressed Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Thursday 11/6.
TKDN Target Up, IKM Up Grade
The Minister of Industry emphasized that the growth of the electric vehicle industry must be balanced by the strengthening of the domestic supply chain. The goal is to increase the Domestic Component Level of TKDN while strengthening the independence of the national industry.
"The growth of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia must be followed by the strengthening of the domestic supply chain. This step is part of efforts to increase the added value and content of domestic production," he said.
Director General of IKMA Reni Yanita added, this business meeting is a concrete bridge for IKM.
"We want local IKM not only to be an audience, but to be an important part of providing quality components for the domestic and global electric vehicle industry," said Reni.
Ministry of Industry "Toll Road"
The Ministry of Industry did not let go. For IKM who want to enter, the Directorate General of IKMA continues to improve competence through two-wheeled and multipurpose electric vehicle repair training.
The training materials are complete such as component identification, damage analysis, electric vehicle maintenance, service maintenance practices, to the application of work safety standards.
Infrastructure support is also getting stronger. PLN data records, 4,769 units of SPKLU Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations have been operating at 3,097 points throughout Indonesia as of April 2026. The population of electric buses has also reached 798 units.
So for IKM automotive parts, this is a very clear signal. The KBLBB train is already speeding. The market is up 95.9%. The supply chain is wide open.
Now it's just how the local IKM sees this opportunity, ready to move up or miss out.
