INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Indonesia's tourism sector continues to show positive performance throughout 2026. In the midst of global geopolitical dynamics and world economic uncertainty, the number of foreign tourist visits continues to increase, followed by an increase in tourist spending which also boosts the country's foreign exchange receipts.
Head of the RI Government Communications Agency, Muhammad Qodari, said that the tourism sector has further strengthened its position as one of the main drivers of national economic growth.
"Indonesian tourism continues to show positive and resilient performance, both in terms of foreign tourists and archipelago tourists. This achievement further strengthens the role of tourism as one of the drivers of national economic growth," Qodari said in a press conference on Wednesday (17/6).
Based on data from the Ministry of Tourism as of June 14, 2026, the number of foreign tourist visits in theJanuary-April 2026 period reached 4.68 million visits. This figure increased by 8.24 percent compared to the same period the previous year which recorded 4.33 million visits.
According to Qodari, this growth can be sustained thanks to adaptive marketing strategies, especially through the optimization of the short and medium distance tourism market.
βThe growth of tourist visits is maintained even though the world faces various challenges. Adaptive marketing strategies are one of the important factors that support this achievement," he said.
Not only in terms of the number of visits, the quality of tourists has also increased. In the first quarter of 2026, theaverage expenditure of foreign tourists reached 1,345 dollars AS or equivalent to Rp22.68 million per visit. The value rose 5.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025 which was at the level of 1,277 dollars AS or around Rp20.89 million.
The increase in the number of tourist visits and spending has a direct impact on tourism foreign exchange receipts. In the first quarter of 2026, the foreign exchange of the tourism sector was recorded at 4.05 billion dollars AS or around Rp68.28 trillion, growing 6.3 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
Meanwhile, the travel activity of Indonesian tourists (wisnus) also shows a positive trend. During the same period, there were 417.06 million domestic tourist trips with an estimated economic turnover of Rp1,016 trillion.
Qodari stressed that the government will continue to maintain the growth momentum of the tourism sector so that its benefits can be felt more evenly by the community.
βIn the future, the government will continue to ensure that the development of the tourism sector is not only reflected in the growth rate, but also presents real benefits for tourists, local communities, business actors, and the entire national tourism ecosystem,β he said.
