Lombok is often described as the quieter alternative to Bali. That is true in parts, but the smarter reason to come is that a short holiday here can still revolve around wide-open beaches, hilltop views and food from small local kitchens rather than expensive packaged experiences.
This itinerary keeps the focus on South Lombok. It does not try to squeeze the Gili Islands, Rinjani and every beach in Mandalika into four days. Fewer long drives make for a better holiday and, importantly, a more believable budget.
Highlights
- A four-day South Lombok holiday from Jakarta is modelled at IDR 5,400,000 per person.
- A return ticket to Lombok International Airport is the biggest expense.
- A Kuta Lombok guesthouse makes Tanjung Aan, Bukit Merese and Selong Belanak easier to reach.
- The Gili Islands are deliberately outside the base itinerary and budget.
Quick answer: Allow roughly IDR 5.4 million (US$298) for four days and three nights in South Lombok, including a Jakarta return flight, a private guesthouse room, meals, ground transport and modest sightseeing.

Why choose South Lombok rather than the Gilis?
The two areas belong to the same island, but they do not make a tidy single base. Kuta and Mandalika lie in the south, close to Lombok International Airport (LOP). The famous Gili islands sit off Lombok's northwest coast. Crossing the island and coordinating boats can consume much of a day.
For a first budget trip, choose one area and explore it properly. South Lombok wins for beaches, surf watching and short scenic drives. The Gilis make more sense on a separate visit or a longer itinerary with an overnight stay near the north coast.
Flights to Lombok: The realistic part of the budget
Economy flights from Jakarta (CGK) to Lombok (LOP) are offered by several Indonesian carriers. Trip.com displayed return-flight examples from around IDR 2.56 million in early November 2026, while one-way sale prices and connection options varied widely.
Use IDR 2,600,000 as the model return airfare. Check whether a lower headline fare involves a very long connection. A route that takes most of the day to save a small amount is poor value on a four-day break.

Where to stay in Kuta Lombok on a budget
Stay around Kuta's central roads if you want restaurants within easy reach and straightforward pickups for beach trips. Booking.com has listed budget guesthouses such as LilyPad Guest House from around IDR 250,000 per night and Kuta Garden around IDR 350,000, depending on the listing and dates.
We budget IDR 300,000 per night for three nights, giving an accommodation total of IDR 900,000. Confirm whether the advertised rate buys a private room rather than a hostel dorm, and whether the property has hot water, air-conditioning and reliable transport access. South Lombok's roads are less walkable than a compact city centre.

Four days around Kuta and Mandalika
Day 1: Arrive and settle in at Kuta
After landing at LOP, go directly to your guesthouse and explore Kuta's restaurant streets. A first evening at the beach is better than rushing straight into a tour. Ask the host about the best transport option for the next two days.
Day 2: Tanjung Aan and Bukit Merese
Spend the morning at Tanjung Aan, then walk up Bukit Merese when the heat begins to ease. These are classic South Lombok landscapes: curved bays, green or golden hills depending on the season and plenty of room to slow down. Carry water and check whether any local parking or access fees apply.
Day 3: Selong Belanak and a Sasak village
Drive west towards Selong Belanak, where the long beach is the main attraction. On the way back, consider a visit to a traditional Sasak village such as Sade with a local guide. Ask about any visitor contribution in advance and treat homes and workshops as lived-in places, not a theme park.
Day 4: Breakfast and airport transfer
Keep the final morning flexible, especially if your flight leaves early. A nearby cafe or short beach walk is enough before returning to the airport.
Transport, food and the things worth paying for
There is no need for a private driver every day, but IDR 750,000 for airport transfers and two days of local movement is more realistic than assuming every place is within walking distance. You may be able to hire a scooter for part of the trip, but only ride if you have the appropriate licence, experience, helmet and insurance; otherwise use a licensed driver.
For meals, put aside IDR 550,000 across four days. Try ayam taliwang, plecing kangkung and other Sasak dishes at ordinary warungs. The modest IDR 250,000 activity line assumes mostly beach-based outings, not a surf course, boat charter or organised Gili excursion.
Is Lombok still cheaper than Bali?
It can be, particularly for accommodation and everyday food, but flights can erase that advantage. This example and the Bali plan arrive at the same total because the Lombok airfare is higher while paid activities are fewer. That is why comparing only hotel rates gives a misleading picture.
For a Gili add-on, separately price the north-coast transfer, public boat or fast boat, onward transport and any overnight stay. It is not included in the figure below.

FAQ
Is four days enough for Lombok?
Yes for one part of the island. Four days work well around Kuta and Mandalika; they are not enough for a comfortable south-coast trip plus a proper Gili Islands stay.
What is the cheapest area to stay in South Lombok?
Central Kuta has a useful concentration of guesthouses, cafes and transport providers. Prices depend heavily on travel dates and room type.
Does the total include Gili Trawangan?
No. Boat fares, a cross-island transfer and any Gili accommodation would be extra.
Can travellers drive themselves?
Only if appropriately licensed, insured and comfortable with local road conditions. A car and driver is a safer choice for some visitors.
