INDUSTRY.co.id - The central government will build a 10 MW Gas Power Plant (PLTG) in Morotai Island, North Maluku (Malut) to meet the electricity needs in the area.
"The development of the PLTG is planned in 2017 and various requirements, such as the principle permit has been issued by the local government, as well as its location has been prepared in South Morotai," said Head of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Malut Safruddin in Ternate, 1).
The 10 MW power plant development in Morotai is an implementation of the basic infrastructure program related to the development of Morotai as one of 10 major tourist destinations in Indonesia and as a Special Economic Zone (KEK).
According to Safruddin, electrical energy is one of the most needed basic infrastructure in the area, because the current electricity capacity is only 3 MW and most of it still use Diesel Power Plant (Diesel) which is prone to disturbance, such as engine damage.
The condition of electricity capacity in Morotai like that resulted in many investors, both from within and abroad who delay the realization of its investment in Morotai, because they need a large enough electricity for its business operations.
"Last week the Polish Embassy visited Morotai to explore investments in tourism in the area, and one of their requests for realizing investment is the availability of adequate electrical energy," Safruddin said.
But the central government has declared its commitment to provide electricity in Morotai regardless of what investors need as coveted by building a 10 MW power plant in 2017 and will follow the construction of another power plant, which is generally a renewable energy source.
