INDUSTRY.co.id - Sabang - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the light railway (LRT) under construction in Jakarta will not be completed to support the 2018 Asian Games, but LRT Palembang is believed to be operational before the Asia's largest sports event.

"LRT Jakarta is not finished for the Asian Games, it's my observation, I do not know what the problem is, it could be the land problem," said Budi Karya on the sidelines of Sabang Sail, in Sabang City, Aceh, Saturday (2/12/2017)

The LRT line extends from Kelapa Gading to Velodrome in East Jakarta along 9 km. If the Gading-Velodrome line is completed, then it will be followed by the Velodrome-Dukuh Atas line so that it is connected with the airport train and KRL in Dukuh Atas.

He said because LRT can not be a transportation for participants of the Asian Games, the Ministry of Transportation will provide a bus that will take the participants from the lodge to the location of the race and the game.

On the other hand, Budi Karya is optimistic that LRT Palembang will be completed by February 2018 so that April 2018 has already begun testing.

"LRT Palembang can operate during the Asian Games so all athletes will use LRT," he said.

Development of LRT Palembang has reached 72 percent, even the bridge LRT South Sumatra connecting the Seberang Ulu side with Seberang Ilir side along approximately 445 meters have been connected.

The location of the South Sumatra LRT bridge adjacent to Ampera Bridge makes LRT passengers able to see the beautiful scenery of the Musi River.

Palembang LRT Line approximately 23.4 kilometers using 1067 mm rail line width.

LRT Sumsel is equipped with 13 stations namely Airport, Hajj Hostel, Telkom, RSUD, Polda, Demang Lebar Daun, Palembang Icon, Dishub Kominfo, Cinde Market, Ampera Bridge, Polresta, Jakabaring Stadium and Ogan Permata Indah Station.

This line will be served 14 series of trains with three trains per series.
