INDUSTRY.co.id - Nabire - Minister of Transportation (menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said many private companies have expressed interest in the development of Nabire Port so that the distribution of goods coming from the district around more smoothly.
In his working visit to accompany President Joko Widodo at the Port of Nabire, Papua, Thursday (21/12/2017), Menhub Budi Karya assessed potential Port Nabire as a port that connects six districts around Nabire.
"Indirectly the goods will flow, but if not responded well, there is a blockage, we must develop the port together, private sector must also invest in it," said Budi.
He mentioned that many private companies are interested in developing the Port of Nabire, one of which is the supply of ro-ro vessel. However, the Ministry of Transportation will be more selective in choosing companies to be collaborated so that it must go through the auction stage first.
Ro-ro boat provider investors will also develop port infrastructure, such as constructing test roads to docks, widening port and container transport cranes.
Minister of Transportation requested that in the next three months there will be tender winner so that the distribution of goods can be faster by using ro-ro vessel.
According to him, with the presence of private companies that invest in roro ships, indicates the Port of Nabire can be profitable in terms of business and competitive.
President Joko Widodo previously said that with the cooperation with the private sector, the Port of Nabire will become the foundation for the surrounding districts.
"What I think is the most important one, the private entrance here is good, there is a private sector wanting to come here bringing own roro, 'crane' itself, I think that's good, that means there is interest," he said.
The President requested that local commodities from Nabire and around, such as fish, oranges, wood and bananas can also be transported on the way back so as to become a large economic potential and benefit the community.
