The development work of LRT South Sumatera has been started since 2015, funded by APBN covering construction work and supervision work.

The work of LRT South Sumatra is divided into five work zones to accelerate the completion of the development of South Sumatera LRT.

With a railway line of approximately 23 kilometers long, using 1067mm rail line width and a third rail electricity of 750 VDC, the South Sumatra LRT will connect Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin International Airport to Jakabaring "sport city" area, which will be used as an arena for the Asian Games 2018, to Depo LRT located in Ogan Permai Indah.
