INDUSTRY.co.id - Palembang - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said there will be four major cities in Indonesia which will become the priority of light railway construction or "Light Rail Transit" (LRT).

"There are four that have become a priority continued, namely Medan, Bandung, Makassar and Surabaya," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in Palembang, South Sumatra, Monday (22/1/2018)

According to him, one of the needs of LRT if the city already has a population close to 2 million inhabitants.

He also explained that the development of LRT is not only focused on Java Island, but also other big cities that are ready on condition.

Previously, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi wants Saudi Arabian investors to invest in LRT projects, especially for Bumi Serpong Damai to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

He mentioned the investment potential of LRT, which is Rp20 trillion.

Budi explained the reason for the offer of the LRT project to Saudi Arabian investors, which is very high economic value, namely the potential passengers who will never be quiet from and to the airport.

"Many passengers are heading to the airport so the value of purchasing power is relatively high, we need to reduce the congestion in Soetta, so I want to invest in Soetta," he said.

He adds many benefits gained, namely the density of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport also investors can reap great results because of its very high economic potential.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, he said, other countries are also interested in investing in LRT projects, namely South Korea and China.

Budi said ideally LRT project was soon built because of the need for transportation mode that provides certainty of travel time is badly needed.

"The cities that grow in the South of Jakarta so much nowadays some of them turn to Jakarta and add congestion, there will also be Kelapa Gading to the airport, that's interesting," he said.

In the last occasion, Chairman of the Association of Saudi Arab Investors in Indonesia Habab Alhanaya said it should utilize the potential of investment in Indonesia.

Habab added that his party wanted a simple regulation to facilitate investment in Indonesia.

"The first one hopes for the simplicity of the bureaucracy, and now to create an Indonesian company, we need five months, which will hamper investment development in Indonesia," he said.
