INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) assesses that inter-institutional and institutional integration in food safety monitoring in Indonesia should be improved to ensure the safety of food products for the community.

FAO Representative for Indonesia and Timor Leste Mark Smulders in the socialization of food monitoring system evaluation conducted in Jakarta on Wednesday (24/1/218) said that cooperation and coordination between ministries in food supervision is fragmented.
 

 "Basically the performance of competent institutions is good, but it needs coordination and collaboration from authoritative authorities to each other," Mark said as quoted by Antara.

The involvement of the Indonesian government in international food security and food control governance is considered very strong.

In addition, the FAO assesses the existing system to make the officers involved so highly qualified.

 However, Mark emphasizes the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation-the authorized institution to create a national food security network.

At the ministry-level performance level, the FAO believes that every institution has provided good service despite lack of programming, consistency and coordination.

While the government at the national level is judged to have a good understanding of the risks, but has not received a clear picture of the risks that are prioritized for national prevention.

This is due to the lack of inter-ministerial data-institution integration, and each of the authorities tends to work independently.

The FAO last year assessed the food control system in Indonesia using the national food monitoring system assessment tool of FAO and WHO. The assessment instruments of FAO and WHO are based on global standards.
