INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Head of Center for Data, Information and Public Relations National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said flood-prone areas are increasingly widespread due to human activities.

"The area that was originally never happened flood suddenly happened big flood, human factor more dominant than natural factor as cause of flood," Sutopo said through press release received in Jakarta, Friday (2/3/2018).

Sutopo said the high rate of forest degradation, critical land, environmental degradation, river degradation, weak spatial planning and low disaster awareness culture caused increased vulnerability.

It takes great effort to restore the environmental quality. Disaster risk reduction should be a development investment and a part of the life of a nation and a society.

"Unfortunately, disaster risk reduction is still marginalized in our daily lives," he said.

Throughout January to February 2018, there are 513 disasters in the country that cause losses and damage estimated to reach tens of trillions of rupiah.

The disaster consisted of a tornado of 182 incidents, floods of 157 incidents, landslides 137 incidents, forest and land fire 15 incidents, flood and landslide combination 10 events, tidal waves and abrasion seven events, earthquake damaged three events, and volcano eruption two events.
