INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The security and health factor is the most important thing in toy products. In this case we are still formulating SNI for toy products. In addition, our toys market share is large, so we are working on the toy industry growing rapidly.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Industry when he received the Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer of Mattel Inc., Peter Gibbson and Vice President of Mattel Global Procurement, Sean Murphy at the office of the Ministry of Industry, Jakarta (1/8/20170.

"In 2016, toys export value amounted to 500 million US dollars. In contrast, China is able to reach the value of exports up to three to four times, of which the majority is exports of plastic and doll products," said Airlangga.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of Small and Medium Industry (IKM) has submitted a proposal to the National Standardization Agency for SNI to be applied in the upstream.

According to him, the potential for domestic toy market is still open, Because the birth rate is quite high every year. The growth of Indonesian children is born every year as many as 4.5 million children. That number is considered potential by the world's largest toy manufacturer country in the world.

Based on Kemenperin records show that in 2016 toy export value worth up to 500 million US dollars. In contrast, China is able to achieve export value of up to three to four times. Of these numbers the majority are exports of plastic and doll products.

With the application of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) label finally able to suppress the import of toy industry from various countries. This condition becomes an opportunity for local toy industry to be more developed.

As information, SNI compulsory rules for the toy industry are derived from Regulation of Minister of Industry No.24 / M-Ind / PER / 4/2013. Although the rule was published four years ago, but its effectiveness has only been felt lately. The reason, there was a rejection of beleid that is considered detrimental to toy importers and businessmen in the country. That's because the new rules require toy manufacturers to pocket SNI standard certificates on their products. Not only that, the process of handling the certificate is also considered convoluted.

Luckily the Ministry of Industry and PT Sucofindo, one of the State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) swiftly by providing financing assistance to make SNI to the toy industry. All industries that get help are small and medium industries (IKM).

On the other hand, the toy industry's big opportunity is also supported by the growth of child birth rate in Indonesia which is in the range of 4.5 million per year. Although not including the basic needs, but the child's toy is a required item.
