INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Indonesia and Grenada agree to advance efforts to overcome the impacts of climate change, according to the press release of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry received in Jakarta on Friday (30/3/2018).

The agreement was made by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi when he met with Permanent Representative Grenada on the sidelines of the UN Security Council Open Debate on UN peacekeeping mission in New York, USA.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno stressed that as two archipelagic countries, Indonesia and Grenada have similar interests in efforts to address the impacts of climate change and disaster risk management.

Grenada praised Indonesia's initiative to organize the "Archipelagic and Islands State Conference" in Bali in October to advance the interests of the island nation.

Foreign Minister Retno also mentioned that Grenada appreciates Indonesia's important contribution in creating peace and security of the island nation amidst today's global challenges.

Previously, Foreign Minister Retno conveyed Indonesia's view in the Open UNSC Open debate with the theme "Collective Action to Improve UN Peacekeeping Operations".

The Foreign Minister was given the opportunity to be the first speaker after 15 UNSC members spoke.

The open debate was organized under the Dutch presidency at the UN Security Council. The meeting was chaired by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as the exposer. A total of 13 ministerial-level officials and 69 UN member countries participated in the open debate.
