Global Forum for Climate Movement: Promoting Green Culture, Innovation, and Cooperation

Thepresidentpost.id - Yogyakarta, Indonesia - The Central Board of Muhammadiyah with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, ViriyaENB (Indonesian Foundation for Net Zero Emission) and Ahmad Dahlan University, have organized the Global Forum for Climate Movement: Promoting Green Culture, Innovation, and Cooperation, at Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta (17-18/11). The Forum was held to enhance stronger commitment and concrete actions in the addressing climate change.

In the opening, Prof. Haedar Nashir, General Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, said that climate change is a global challenge faced by all mankind and nations. “Currently the world is experiencing an ecosystem crisis due to climate change which has broad impacts on all life", said Prof. Hashir. He also highlighted that we need joint efforts and movements to find strategic and systemic solutions at the global level to provide assurance to future human existence and environment.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno L.P. Marsudi, in her keynote address, commended the Forum particularly due to Muhammadiyah's active role in climate change agenda. She stressed that innovative partnership and a whole national ecosystem are important in addressing climate change. Going further, Minister Retno underlined the important role of community engagement to build climate awareness, to forge cooperation, and to provide moral and ethical guidance in creating friendly-environmental lifestyle and behaviour.         

The Forum was attended by various environmental stakeholders nationally and internationally ranging from non-governmental organizations, private sectors, and international organizations, to foreign government representatives of Australia, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States, and Vatican, and international organizations, namely UNDP, UNESCAP, European Union.

The Forum launched the Muhammadiyah Climate Center (MCC) as Muhammadiyah concrete contribution to forge collaboration in finding solutions in climate change, sharing ideas and experiences, as well as strengthening inclusivity in the climate actions.

The Forum will also produce “A Call to Action: Promoting Green Culture, Innovation, and Cooperation" to identify climate actions that represents a steadfast and strong commitment to work together in fostering a green culture, innovation, and collaboration for a more sustainable and resilient future for all, as well as to ensure to leave no one behind.
