Thepresidentpost.id - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized Indonesia's commitment to building a prosperous and sustainable country with an inclusive economy.

To achieve this, the President stated that he would continue to work hard to achieve zero carbon emissions before 2060.

"At the same time enjoying high economic growth, poverty and inequality continue to be reduced significantly, and jobs continue to be created," said the President while speaking at the World Leaders Summit on Climate Change (COP28) at the Al Ghafat Plenary, Expo City Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (PEA), Friday (01/12/2023).

President Jokowi outlined a number of efforts that Indonesia has made to reduce carbon emissions. The Head of State conveyed Indonesia's commitment to improving forest and other land use (FOLU) management, as well as accelerating the energy transition towards new, renewable energy.

"In terms of FOLU management, Indonesia continues to maintain and expand mangrove forests and rehabilitate forests and land," he said.

Apart from that, Indonesia has also succeeded in reducing deforestation rates to their lowest point in the last 20 years. This was also followed by the construction of nurseries which have been carried out on a large scale and have begun to be effective for production.

"We are also building nurseries on a large scale with a total capacity of around 75 million seeds/year and production has begun to be effective," continued the Head of State.

Meanwhile, in terms of the energy transition, the President said that Indonesia's efforts were to accelerate the development of new, renewable energy. "The development of new renewable energy, especially solar, water, wind, geothermal and ocean current energy, as well as the development of biodiesel, bioethanol and biofuels is also becoming more widespread," he said.

To realize this commitment, the President also invited a number of parties such as bilateral partners, private investment, philanthropy and friendly countries to collaborate on funding to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2060.

“The Paris agreement and net zero emissions targets can only be achieved if we can resolve the issue of funding the energy transition. "That's where world problems can be solved," he said. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT)
