INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Indonesian Construction Contractor Association (Gapensi) asked the Government to involve more private contractors in national infrastructure development projects.

"There are 147,000 perpetrators of construction, there is a 1 percent position that big private entrepreneurs try to really use to join the (project) SOEs," said Secretary General Andi Rukman Karumpa after meeting Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the Office of Vice President Jakarta, Monday (28/05/2018).

He regretted the total value of the national infrastructure development project of almost Rp6, 000 trillion, all monopolized by the contractor State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

"Nearly Rp6, 000 trillion in 16 national strategic projects, it's a big project all, and it's all done by SOEs, all assignments, Lampung-Aceh toll road work (worth) tens of trillions, that SOEs are also asked to find money," said Andi .

According to him, private sector executors have a capability that is not less, even better than BUMN contractors, in working on national infrastructure projects.

"We are also able, why not? Only the qualifications for that class is still dominated by SOEs, that's what we want to change in that market share," he said.

Therefore, Gapensi asks the Government to pay more attention to private construction executors, especially at the regional level whose existence is also replaced by the contractors of state-owned and local-owned enterprises.

"Of the 147 thousand members of national construction executives today, all are still waiting for the infrastructure development, there are still many who didn’t get it yet, especially on Eid," he said.

Of the total value of infrastructure projects around Rp6 thousand trillion, 55 percent of which is controlled by 8 state-owned companies. While the remaining 45 percent distributed to 140 thousands of private contractors.
