INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan encouraged the cooperation of Singapore-based company, Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) Marine Pte Ltd with port management in Indonesia to have technology transfer in port management in the country.

Through a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday (8/12/2017), Luhut reviewed the port facility operated by PSA Marine Pte Ltd on Friday (11/8). In 2016, the hub transshipment operator has handled 30.59 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) containers or 15 times larger than the number of container flows handled by Tanjung Priok Port in the same year, which is 1,913,958 TEUs.

According to Luhut, the amount of capacity is supported by technological sophistication, ranging from container transport trucks that no longer require drivers because it has a semi robot system. Similarly cranes are also controlled by remote control systems.

The former Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs admitted that he wanted the technology to be adopted by the Indonesian port.

"In Priok, Patimban, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar may be this (explored for the application of the technology)," he said of potential cooperation that could be done, other than in Dry Port Cikarang.

"My passion is to see PSA come to Indonesia and train us," he added.

The review was conducted on the sidelines of Menko Luhut's visit while leading the Indonesian delegation in a bilateral meeting with Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister S. Iswaran on Friday (11/8). The meeting is a preparation for the implementation of "Singapore-Indonesia Leaders' Retreat" as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

One of the issues highlighted at the meeting was cooperation in the face of the digital economy era in addition to collaboration in investment and skills training and regional development and growth.

Minister Iswaran also said ASEAN should now focus on facing the changing world economy dominated by internet and online commerce.

"I think it is important for us to equate the voice and signal to the world that ASEAN not only succeeded in recovering from the financial crisis1997-1998, but also in fact focusing its goals on economic activity (global)," Iswaran said.

In addition to the bilateral meeting, Luhut also attended "Indonesia's Mid-term Investment and Infrastructure Review and Dialogue" at Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore, on the same day.

He explained that Indonesia's economy is improving and policy reforms are being made to make the government invite foreign investors to invest in the country.

"I will guarantee the security of certainty for investors, if there is any obstacle to report to me," said Luhut.

In the two agendas, Luhut was accompanied by the Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Ngurah Swajaya, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Vice Governor of North Sumatra Province Nurhajizah Marpaung, President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Sofyan Basir, Deputy Bappenas Facility and Infrastructure Sector.

In addition, Head of the Tourism Authority of Lake Toba (BPODT) Arie Prasetyo, Director General of Resilience and International Industrial Access Development Ministry of Industry, Director General of Sea Transportation Ministry of Transportation, Head of Development Acceleration Working Group 10 Tourism Destinations Priority Ministry of Tourism, and President Director PT Jababeka Tbk .
