INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Minister of National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas Bambang Brodjonegoro invites Indonesia's diaspora to help the economic development to enable Indonesia to be free from the middle class trap situation.

"We expect the diaspora to begin to create a 'masterplan' of how to help Indonesia become a developed country," said Bambang in the Indonesian Diaspora Global Summit 2017 in Jakarta, Monday (21/08/2017)

He said the assistance of diaspora or Indonesians residing abroad is through innovation, research and development, as well as 'entrepreneurship' or entrepreneurship.

"Entrepreneurship is expected to bring foreign investment to Indonesia," he said. "What diaspora can do to contribute to Indonesia is how to help Indonesia to get out of the middle income trap and become a developed country," Bambang said.

According to Bambang, currently Indonesia is categorized as lower middle income country. He predicts that Indonesia will move from middle-class country to a developed country by 2038 if economic growth is consistent at 5 percent.

"If the economy grows 6.5 percent, then 2030 is out of the 'middle income trap' We want Indonesia to progress faster," said Bambang.

He exemplifies the experience of South Korea that can get out of middle-class country into a developed country. South Korea is considered capable of innovating and has superior capabilities in manufacturing.

"South Korea also relies on industries such as Samsung, so the key is industry, innovation and entrepreneurship," said Minister of PPN / Bappenas. (Ant)
