INDUSTRY.co.id - Sumenep - Until mid-August 2017, the temporary production of people's salt in Sumenep is only about 4,600 tons. The figure is far from the set production target of 368 thousand tons.

"From the comparison of production and target, it is still very far, only one percent more, but the salt production will continue to move," Sumenep Fisheries Department head Arief Rusdi said on Wednesday (23/08/2017).

According to him, salt production figures in two weeks jumped dramatically compared to the end of July 2017 which only ranges from 850 tons.

"Weather conditions since August have been very real for the production of salt, so the amount of salt production continues to rise, so hopefully the weather will still support to achieve maximum salt production," he said.

According to the projection of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the production of salt in Sumenep this year is targeted at 368 thousand tons. While in 2016, Sumenep salt production target of 260 thousand tons, and only realized as many as 17,109 tons.

"Salt production is very dependent on weather conditions, and in 2016 there will be wet drought until salt harvest fails, while in 2017 there will be an anomaly of the weather, and at the beginning of the dry season it is often rain that causes salt production to falter," he said.

According to the data at the Sumenep Fisheries Department, the people's salt field this year is 2,068 hectares spread in nine districts, namely Kalianget, Gapura, Saronggi, Pragaan, Giligenting, Raas, Arjasa, Kangayan and Sapeken.
