INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Efforts to expand the export market of Indonesian products in Australia again showed positive results. The Ministry of Trade through the RI Trade Attaché in Canberra recorded a potential transaction of 3.5 million USD in Indonesia's participation in Global Sourcing Expo (GSE) Sydney 2026 which took place on 16-18 June 2026 at International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney, Australia.

Support was also provided directly by the Ambassador of RI for Australia and Vanuatu, Siswo Pramono, who visited the pavilion on June 17, 2026.

“GSE is one of the largest and most important sourcing exhibitions in Australia. Indonesia's presence at this exhibition is a strategic opportunity to introduce the quality and diversity of Indonesian products to international buyers, while expanding market access for Indonesian exporters," said Haris.

A total of eight Indonesian exporters took part in the exhibition, namely PT Gradial Perdana Perkasa, Linda Chandra Art Shoes, Pakis Jaya Garmindo (Batik Hadinata), Faz Uniforms, Nicole's Natural, Zemed.id, Two Baskets, and Adiwinoto Ecoprint Boutique.

Meanwhile, retail sales in the clothing, footwear, and personal accessories category were recorded at around AUD 3.18 billion in June 2025, an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the previous month.

“The data shows that Australia is a relevant and potential market for Indonesian garment, fashion, footwear, accessories, textiles, and lifestyle support products,” Haris said.

Not only focusing on trade promotion, Indonesia's participation in GSE Sydney 2026 is also part of strengthening the Ministry of Trade's Campuspreneur program.

This program encourages the involvement of Indonesian students abroad in trade promotion activities, entrepreneurship, and increasing national exports.

In its implementation, Indonesian students are also involved as operational support for pavilions, booth guards, and communication facilitators between business actors and prospective international buyers.

One real example comes through Oriza Utami, a MBA University of Sydney student who represents Zemed.id, an Indonesian children's clothing brand that is pioneering exports to Australia.

Its presence is a symbol that Indonesian students abroad not only act as an academic diaspora, but can also become business actors who contribute to the promotion of national products.

"Participation in GSE Sydney 2026 is a very valuable experience for us to directly understand the needs of Australian buyers, build business networks, and test the potential of Indonesian products in international markets. We hope this step can be a good start for Zemed.id to pioneer exports, while inspiring other Indonesian students to contribute to the development of national exports," said Oriza.

On the other hand, the special booth TEI 2026 also recorded a positive response. A total of 30 prospective buyers from Australia expressed interest in attending Trade Expo Indonesia 2026 which was scheduled to take place on 14-18 October 2026 in Indonesia.

Global Sourcing Expo itself is known as one of the largest sourcing events in Australia that brings together buyers, retailers, wholesalers, importers, distributors, and industry players with manufacturers from various countries.

This exhibition is an important platform to establish new business partnerships, find alternative sources of supply, and follow global trends in the fashion, textile, footwear, accessories, and household goods industries.

This year, more than 600 exhibitors from various countries participated, including Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Taiwan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.

The presence of hundreds of participants makes GSE Sydney 2026 as one of the strategic doors for Indonesian products to expand international market penetration, especially in the Australian and Pacific regions.
