INDUSTRY.co.id - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9) to discuss opportunities to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. Key areas of cooperation include agriculture, energy and natural resources, minerals, defense, investment, and shipping.
Minister of Investment and Downstream/CEO of Danantara, Rosan P. Roeslani, stated that one of the concrete outcomes of the meeting was the initial phase of investment by PT Pupuk Indonesia in Vladivostok for the development of a urea fertilizer plant.[Persero]
“We, together with the President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, have just signed a joint study to assess the potential for Pupuk Indonesia to invest in Vladivostok for urea fertilizer production,” Rosan told the press in Vladivostok.
According to him, Pupuk Indonesia’s strong performance and efficiency have opened opportunities for the company to expand overseas. The partnership with Russian counterparts is expected to strengthen national industry and secure raw material supply.
“Pupuk Indonesia’s performance continues to improve and become more efficient, so it has great potential to invest in Vladivostok and collaborate with Russian partners,” he added.
President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi, said the MoU for the joint study aligns with Danantara’s objective for Pupuk Indonesia to contribute to national food and energy security while expanding production globally. Vladivostok’s strategic location facing the Pacific region was also highlighted as a key market for Pupuk Indonesia.
“Vladivostok’s location facing the Pacific makes it highly strategic, as the region has become one of the main markets for Pupuk Indonesia,” said Rahmad.
In addition to fertilizer, Rosan noted potential cooperation in the shipping industry. During the bilateral meeting, President Putin offered a high-tech vessel over 102 meters in length for fishery product processing.
“President Putin also offered a high-tech ship, more than 102 meters long, which can be used for fishery product processing to ensure better quality,” Rosan explained.
In response, President Prabowo will dispatch a team to assess the potential use of the vessel in Indonesia.
Rosan also highlighted plans to ratify a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union, which is expected to expand trade and investment. Trade between Indonesia and Russia recorded a 12% increase last year.
“This is the perfect momentum to expand trade, cooperation, partnership, and investment for both countries,” Rosan concluded.
The agreements and opportunities discussed reflect that the meeting between President Prabowo and President Putin not only strengthened political ties between Indonesia and Russia, but also delivered concrete results for the economy, industry, and national security of both nations.
