No wonder the demand for materials continues to rise, one of which is steel. But in fact, the contractors and distributors are still a lot of imported materials.

Secretary General of Indonesia Steel Bridge Association (APJBI), Andi Syukri said that steel imports have been done because overseas prices are cheaper. Although the quality of steel Indonesia is not less good with other countries.

"Actually, this market is not just a contractor, it needs everything, of course, the contractor also wants cheap and it is captured by importers and distributors," said Andi during the 'Steel Friday Lunch Club' organized by the Association Indonesian Steel Society in Jakarta (26/1/2018).

On the other hand, Customer Relation of PT Gunung Garuda, Kodrat Satriawan, said that the need for steel material can be fulfilled by domestic producers.

"The need for steel bridge material we can meet and we produce," he explained.

He complained about the rapid import of steel that has been happening. Because this is certainly very detrimental to the country's steel producers.

"Currently, the producers are concerned that imported materials and ready-to-build bridges are often used by private projects and government projects," said Kodrat.

He added, the more bridge projects the more material is absorbed to create a bridge unit. So Kodrat ensures that Indonesian steel producers are able to meet the material needs.
