INDUSTRY.co.id - East Timor - Ericsson has expanded Telkomcel's broadband capabilities-a mobile telecommunications service in East Timor owned by Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (TELIN) -by launching 4G services from Telkomcel to customers in Timor Leste.
The CEO of Telkomcel Timor Leste, Dedi Suherman said, "The ongoing investment and modernization of the network is one of our dedication to ensuring the sustainability of our operations in the future for the benefit of all stakeholders.
"It also reflects our commitment to providing the best service quality for the mobile broadband community in Timor Leste through the provision of advanced infrastructure and technology to ensure an exceptional mobile experience for our customers." Dedi told reporters on Friday (29/09/2017 ).
A live test of the 4G network was successfully implemented at the beginning of this month and 4G services were launched as part of Telkomcel's 5 year anniversary operation in Timor Leste.
The launch of Ericsson LTE RAN 17A brings many improvements that will increase network speed, capacity, and overall network performance thereby enhancing the mobile broadband experience for customers.
Telkomcel has fulfilled communications requests from over 450,000 subscribers from the 1.2 million total population in East Timor since its inception in 2012. Telkomcel currently has a significant market share for cellular services in East Timor.
Jerry Soper, President of Ericsson Indonesia and Timor Leste said the cooperation represents a significant achievement and strengthens Ericsson's partnership with Telkomcel.
"In addition, this is a tangible form of our commitment to customer success, and Timor Leste is an important market for the development and innovation of mobile networks because its users are very enthusiastic in adopting new technologies," he said.
Ericsson, as a long-term partner of Telkomcel has modernized the available infrastructure using Ericsson's NFV infrastructure (NFVi) solution through software-defined infrastructure with HDS 8000 and Ericsson Radio System LTE RAN 17A software solution.
Ericsson vEPC and LTE RAN 17A software supports high-capacity environments and solutions that enable operators to develop new uses of the Internet of Things (IoT) for example.
Soper added, with the presence of 4G subscription service, the people of Timor Leste can enjoy more features of smartphones that have significantly affected the lifestyle and community business.
