INDUSTRY.co.id - Geneva, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia agreed to immediately renew the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei.

The agreement of the two countries was presented in the second bilateral meeting between the two countries on the sidelines of the session of the ILO in Geneva, Switzerland (6/6/2018).

The meeting which is a follow-up to the meeting of President of Indonesia Joko Widodo with Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah was represented by Minister of Manpower of RI M Hanif Dhakiri with Minister of Home Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Awang Abu Bakar Bin Haji Apong.

"We are soon updating the memorandum of cooperation with Indonesia related to Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei," said Haji Awang.

According to him, the presence of thousands of Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei is very helpful for Brunei's economic sustainability. "Immediately after Eid, we hope the memorandum of agreement has been signed" he added.

Minister Hanif welcomed Brunei's commitment. "Because Indonesia has a new law on migrant workers stating that the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in a country should be based on the MoU," said Minister.

On the occasion, the Minister of Manpower also appreciated the Brunei government on the relation of labor relations with relatively conducive Indonesian migrant workers.

The Minister of Manpower also asked Brunei to continuously improve the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, particularly on social security. Indonesian migrant worker must provide social security.

At the request, Haji Awang also stated that Brunei has a new regulation on social security for migrant workers. "Users of migrant workers who are not equipped with social security, will get permission from immigration," he explained.

Meanwhile, President Director of BPJS Manpower Agus Susanto who participated in the meeting requested cooperation with Brunei on social security for migrant workers in both countries.

"The cooperation will make it easier for migrant workers to promote and use benefits in both countries, both for Indonesian and Brunei migrant workers. The Brunei party welcomes the cooperation agreement, "he said.
