INDUSTRY.co.id - Bandung- Indonesia hopes the trade war between the United States and China can be solved through the mechanism of rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), said Director General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Febrian A Ruddyard.
"We recommend that the trade war of the United States and China be returned to the dispute resolution mechanism through the WTO," said Director General of Febrian after opening a Workshop on Capacity Building of Government Officials related to the WTO issue in Bandung, Monday (26/3/2018)
He explained that all countries will be affected by trade war of the two world economic powers because trade has linked the interests of all countries.
"The WTO is the most perfect place of trade disputes because it already has a mechanism involving legal experts so that objectivity and legality are highly valued," he said.
The same thing is expressed by observers of world trade from UGM Doctor Poppy Sulistyaning Winanti that the trade war needs to be closely watched Indonesia, especially if China then take retaliatory action.
"If responded to the same thing by China and the EU then the impact is very bad for world trade, until now China still has not responded the same," said Poppy who is also a lecturer of FISIP UGM.
Meanwhile, Director of Commerce and Intellectual Property (PKKI) Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tri Purnajaya said, Indonesia's membership is made consciously because the world needs a new norm to facilitate world trade.
"The WTO is only a means to achieve the welfare of the people and encourage world stability," Tri Purnajaya said.
She hopes that all policymakers in Indonesia do not violate WTO trade norms that can be sued by other countries.
In contrast, Indonesian representatives in other countries also need to actively monitor trade rules in the country that could hamper the market of goods from Indonesia.
