INDUSTRY.co.id - President Prabowo Subianto officially launched Indonesia’s 100-gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power program on Tuesday (Aug 25, 2026). The initiative begins with 14 solar power plants across six provinces with a combined capacity of 5.3 GWp.

“This afternoon, by the grace of God Almighty, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby officially launch the 100 GWp solar power plant program,” the President said at the Gilimanuk Site Solar Power Plant in Jembrana, Bali.

The first 14 plants are located in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Riau Islands.

The government is targeting to reach 100 GWp of solar capacity within three years.

“We will build the 100 GWp of solar power capacity. We are very serious about this, and our target is to achieve 100 GWp within three years,” Prabowo said.

US$73 Billion Investment

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said the program is expected to deliver significant benefits, including reducing state-budget subsidies by replacing diesel-fired power generation, cutting diesel consumption, creating jobs, and lowering carbon emissions.

“The total investment required for the 100 GWp program is approximately US$73 billion, or more than Rp1,140 trillion. Through this project, we can generate annual subsidy savings of Rp73.9 trillion and create approximately 5.52 million jobs,” Bahlil said.

The 14 Solar Plants Launched

1.  Riau Islands: Tembesi Solar Power Plant, Sembur Island Solar Power Plant
2.  Bangka Belitung Islands: Rengit Island Solar Power Plant
3.  West Java: Saguling, Purwakarta, Jatiluhur, Cirata, Jatigede Solar Power Plants
4.  Central Java: Gajah Mungkur Reservoir Solar Power Plant
5.  East Java: Karangkates, Madura, Pasuruan, Banyuwangi Solar Power Plants
6.  Bali: Gilimanuk Site Solar Power Plant

Bahlil added that the initiative is a joint effort involving ministries, agencies, the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

“I’d like to thank the TNI, Polri, and all ministries and agencies for their support in making this event possible,” he said.
